Food, Wine, Travel: What This Blog Is All About.

When we finished our time out De L’île and started travelling a few months ago, we didn’t plan on turning it into a blog. We just wanted to explore new places, eat good food, drink good wine and reflect on our time in Qualicum. But somewhere along the way we realized how much we were learning — not just about food, but about the drinks, traditions, and small rituals that shape each culture.

So this blog is simply our way of keeping track of all of it: the meals, the wines, the aperitivi, the markets, and the little lessons we’ve picked up along the way. Nothing fancy — just honest experiences worth sharing.

What You Can Expect Here

We’re not here to review restaurants or pretend to be experts.
Instead, you’ll find:

  • the dishes and drinks that stood out

  • the wines and spirits that surprised us

  • a few stories from the places we visited

  • and simple recipes you can actually use in your own cooking or home bar

If it’s something we learned from travelling, eating, or drinking, it goes here.

Where We’ve Been So Far

So far, our journey has taken us through Italy, Portugal, Croatia, and Slovenia — each place shaping how we think about food, drink, and the way people live around the table.

Every country has shown us something different, not in a dramatic or life-changing way, but in small, practical moments: how people cook, how they gather, what they care about, and how tradition fits into everyday life.

Next, we’re heading into Spain, and we’re excited to see what new ideas it adds to the mix.

What We’ve Learned So Far

One thing keeps repeating itself:
good food and good drinking don’t need to be complicated.

The best things we’ve tasted have been simple — bread, cured meat, local cheese, a glass of house wine, a bitter aperitif, or a classic recipe made with care.

That mindset has started influencing how we cook and drink ourselves, and it’s something we’ll keep sharing as we go.

Why We’re Writing This

To document what we’re experiencing.
To share the dishes, wines, and drinks we think are worth talking about.
And to give you a real, no-nonsense look at what we’ve learned from travelling and eating our way across different countries.

If you’re into food, wine, amaro, vermouth, or just exploring a place through what it serves at the table, we think you’ll enjoy following along.

We’re glad you’re here — let’s see where this goes next.
